Two months ago I joined a local online group in Maryland called Capture Outdoors Maryland. It is sponsored by MPT-Maryland Public Television. I post photos of Maryland and Washington DC on this site regularly, and what is so cool about the site is that I get feedback from other Maryland photographers on my photos. I also get to see what they are shooting. It’s like an author getting story ideas, but in this case, I get photo shoot ideas.
The site runs contests and challenges, but the ultimate prize is to have a photo published in the 15 month calendar that is coming out August 30 and the book which will be published the end of November. None of us know whether we will be in either publications yet.
Each day, someone(unknown to me), who runs the site, chooses a Photo of the Day. Two of my photos were recently chosen out of hundreds uploaded. The one entitled “Perspectives” was taken at the Howard County Fair using a wide angle lens. The one named “A Moment of Reflection” was taken at the FDR Memorial in DC. BTW I shot that image with a point and shoot. You do not always need fancy, expensive equipment if you are presented the right opportunity and grab it.
These photos will be on my purchase site in late September. In the meantime enjoy these as well as my new photos posted under the tab “Recent Photos”(at the top of the blog page). The featured photos for the weekly giveaway have changed. Click on the “Home” tab above to see “A Snowy Day” and “Taking Off”.
This week’s winners are Patty Henderson and Pixiey Dust. Both won a featured photo matted on a 5×7 mat.
As always drop me a line or leave a comment. I appreciate the feedback and would love to hear about what kind of photos you like to see in black and white.
