Downton Abbey

I came about this widely popular TV show by accident. KI and I were listening to a presentation about estate planning. The presenter showed a clip from the first season, and all I got out of the talk was a yearning to find out more about the show.Downton Abbey Exhibit (5) Several months later we put the first season in our Netflix queue, watched it and wanted to know when the second season would begin. Not till January! This was August, and we were hooked! So it has been with every season, we watch it for 6-8 weeks and wait ten months for the next season. We are not alone. It is the most widely watched PBS show in the station’s history.

Downton Abbey Exhibit (6)This past Spring Downton Abbey came to the East Coast. The costumes are part of an exhibit at Winterthur-the DuPont family estate and gardens. I waited until my mother came into town at the end of August because we got her hooked on the show too. Downton Abbey Exhibit (1)After my mom’s 85th birthday celebration weekend in Philadelphia, KI, my mom, stepdad, and I trekked to Winterthur in Delaware’s Brandywine Valley. The exhibit is fascinating and ends January 4, 2015. It is worth a trip if you are in the area.

The photos in this post include a few of the costumes in the exhibit. You can see that Downton Abbey Exhibit (2)they give context with photos, video, display sets, and words.
