I supposedly live in the south. Maryland is south of the Mason-Dixon Line. But every winter we get temperatures below freezing, sometimes near zero. So what is a photographer to do? My good friend and fellow photographer DK Hawk is always willing go out and shoot. We try to find places where we can drive mainly, get out of the car and photograph for less than 10 minutes. Blackwater National Refuge is one such place, and DK’s favorite.
On this particular weekend January day, we decided to shoot a sunset because it was near zero in the morning.
Before we got to Blackwater, DK wanted to show me where the ducks congregate on the Choptank River. We drove down a residential street and bundled up near the water’s edge were a whole bunch of photographers. We spent a very frigid 45 minutes taking photos of beautiful ducks who were delighted to be in the cold since they had downy feathers.
Check out my photos here and on the Recent Photos page of the ducks. Click on DK’s name above to see her magnificent shots too!
It’s that time again to pick a monthly photo winner. Please leave a comment and I will be picking a winner this weekend!
As always thank you for your continued support.
