Before this summer, I would choose specific locations to photograph, but this year, with a busy summer, I am choosing locations for weekend trips with KI and hoping that I can capture some awesome shots.
It has been a mixed bag so far and tested my creativity. A few weeks ago we traveled to a remote lake in Pennsylvania, got to see our good friend Dorinda, took a half day trip on a Pontoon boat, but the photo ops sucked! And, boy, it was hot, hitting near 100 degrees.
The best photo I got in these beautiful surroundings was “Currents” seen left. There was nothing unusual that had not been photographed before and better.
At Harper’s Ferry National Park, earlier this summer, while the Shenandoah river was spectacular, the best photos for me had shapes, lines and diagonals in them. They proved most compelling. So railroad tracks fit that description well.
So when all else fails, Robinson Nature Center in Columbia Maryland, two miles away, still provides me with awesome photo ops. The Middle Patuxent River at the right time of day is pretty cool.
Let know what you think? And all of the photographers out there, experienced or not, what are your favorite places to always get compelling shots?
