On a recent trip to the west coast of Florida to visit my Dad, I got out the camera to capture the spirit of this area. The next few weeks of blogs showcase that attempt.
I love photographing birds, but how many bird photos can one take. Ask DK Hawk , my friend and fellow photographer, who also loves to photograph birds.
So on this trip I worked to capture mood as shown with the silhouettes of pelicans. Notice that I chose not to create this photo in black and white since the color of the dark sky shows so much emotion. It was a brief passing rain shower while we were on a boat.
The action of the bird landing also evokes a mood as it is in black and white, devoid of any color but the beauty of these creatures still shine through.
I tried to show action with the pelican eating the fish. Look closely and you can see the entire fish even though part of it is in the mouth of the pelican. While the action already took place in the mind of the pelican, we still see the results. These moments of action are more difficult to capture. You have to not only be at the right place at the right time. You have to be ready to capture the moment. Sometimes I am just staring at nature in awe, camera in hand, not working!
Wonderful series of photographs!
